The Indian Navy’s goodwill ambassador and training sail ship INS Sudarshini has successfully logged 17,400 nautical miles across 10 countries during its ongoing transoceanic expedition, Lokayan 2026.
On Wednesday the 9th of September 2026, Sudarshini arrived at Livorno, Italy, marking another milestone in the voyage. En route, the vessel conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the Italian Navy’s sail training ship ITS Palinuro in the Mediterranean Sea.

The joint evolution featured coordinated manoeuvres and sail‑handling drills, offering both crews a valuable opportunity to interact and exchange professional expertise.
Livorno, home to the prestigious Italian Naval Academy (Accademia Navale), sets the stage for deeper professional engagement between the two navies.
During the port call, cross‑deck visits and cadet interactions will be undertaken, and Sudarshini will remain open to visitors.
Lokayan 2026 continues to reinforce India’s maritime cooperation and advance the vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions
