The positive comments made by Sergio Gor, the US Ambassador to India during his visit to Srinagar is seen as major victory for India that has repeatedly stated that J&K remains its integral part and there is no restrictions of any movement for foreigners’ visits.
Sergio Gor has described the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as an important part of India and said the governments, both at the Central government at New Delhi and state government at Srinagar, have taken significant steps to improve security.
The US Ambassador is currently his maiden visit to J&K, where he called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at his residence in Srinagar on Wednesday the 19th of August 2026.
The US Ambassador described the meeting with the CM as positive and said that both sides have identified key follow-ups to be taken forward in the future.
Soon after the meeting Sergio Gor told media persons after seeing the improved security conditions first hand, the United States is most likely to downgrade its travel restrictions for its citizens visiting J&K.
He added that many US citizens would like to visit Kashmir as it is a very beautiful place.
The Chief Minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah said, the meeting was positive and focused on India-US relations and areas where the United States can engage with state on positive engagements and future collaborations.
